Welcome to the 1BitSquared IRC net.
This network is intended for hardware and software engineers that enjoy open-source. The community is centered around the 1BitSquared product line but not exclusively. There are a lot of topic channels (#t- prefix) that have nothing to do with the projects (#prj- channel prefix). And we also have some (#a- channel prefix) general channels too.
This IRC server is currently bridged over to our Discord Server, we hope this IRC server will become our future and long term home, and we will be able to decomission the Discord server over time.
This server is running ergo ircd that implements bleeding cutting edge IRCv3 features. The intention is for us to move from Discord to IRC without having to loose too much of the modern chat features.
If you have any questions or concerns, message esden.
How to connect
- Host: irc.1bitsquared.com
- Port: 6697
- Websocket Port: 8097 (needed for web IRC clients like ObsidianIRC)
- SSL/TLS: true
You can find an example config for the halloy client here.
What to connect with
Technically any IRC client will work. The issue is that not all clients implement the new IRCv3 features. So you will be able to connect but you will not get the full experience.
You can try a very simple webclient if you have a qick question or would like to just check the place out quickly. We recommend getting a "proper" IRC client though for best experience. The webclient we offer is called gamja and it does not support all the fun IRCv3 features.
The clients that we have validated have a lot of the features implemented are:
Note: ObsidianIRC can be used directly in the browser.Another very promising client is halloy, it does not support as many of the IRCv3 features as IRCCloud or ObsidianIRC, but it is a true native desktop client. It is also under very active development and IRCv3 features are currently being added to it. You should keep an eye out for it and consider contributing to it. It is written in Rust. ;)
You can also use bridges and bouncers that support IRCv3 features to take advantage of the new capabilities:
- soju an IRC bouncer that supports IRCv3 features and offers additional soju specific IRC protocor extensions. Mainly the ability to host and post media.
- mautrix-irc a Matrix-IRC bridge software supporting reactions, replies and many other IRCv3 features.
